Water UK supports World Water Day

The UK water sector knows that access to clean water and sanitation for all is vital, which is why we are supporting World Water Day.

Public health is dependent on water and effective sanitation. Access to clean water helps to ensure food and energy security, and helps economic growth.

World Water Day highlights the essential role that water plays across the globe and is being marked with events across the world. The theme for this year's day is water and jobs.

The UN states that almost 1.5 billion people have a job directly related to water. Alarmingly, there's often a lack of safe drinking water in the working environment: 38 workers die every hour due to water-related diseases.

Water UK is also supporting WaterAid's blue-themed fundraiser, #Blue4Water, by 'going blue' for World Water Day on social media.

You can also add your name to WaterAid's petition asking the UK Government to show they are global leaders and demonstrate how they plan to play their part in fulfilling the promise of Global Goal 6.

This is vital as 650 million people are still without safe, clean water and over 2.3 billion people live without improved sanitation.

This year's World Water Day also overlaps with Water Saving Week, a campaign in the UK encouraging the wise use of water both at home and in the community.
