Water UK response to final determinations from the Competition and Markets Authority

A Water UK spokesperson:

"Today marks the end of a process that should never have been necessary. The Competition and Markets Authority has approved almost half a billion pounds of funding for investment that Ofwat refused. That Ofwat's final determinations have been overturned by the CMA is further evidence, if any were needed, that the regulatory system has failed.

"This is the final act of a broken system. The Government has agreed it must be replaced. That cannot happen soon enough."
