From April 2017 nearly every business water customer in England will be able to choose who they pay for their retail services.
From April 2017, over 1.2 million eligible businesses and other non-household customers in England will be able to choose their supplier of water and wastewater retail services.
The Open Water programme is bringing together all of the key organisations to design and deliver the opening of competition in the retail market by April 2017.
The new market will allow businesses and other non-household customers to change their water and wastewater retailer like they do for other goods and services. Suppliers will compete for customers by offering them the best deal.
If customers do not decide to switch, they will stay with their existing supplier's retail business.
Household customers and non-eligible businesses will continue to be served by their regional water company.
