Companies make full use of available sources of information, such as data from credit reference agencies and partnerships with a wide range of organisations to extend their reach - but companies know that there are many other customers who could benefit from the support they offer.

We are pleased the Government has proposed amendments to the Digital Economy Bill to make it easier for water companies to help their customers, by using data from government departments like the Department for Work and Pensions to target assistance more effectively and efficiently. Water companies have been calling for this measure for many years.

We look forward to working with the Government and stakeholders on how this data can be used to help more customers who are struggling, with appropriate safeguards to keep information safe and secure.

By working together, we more customers will get the right support at the right time.
